David Pogue sums up his experiences with Apple’s new Siri:

As you can see by the Farmer’s Fridge food fail, the new Siri doesn’t always get it right. But overall, it’s an enormous leap in efficiency and precision. It’s a personal assistant, a second brain, a ChatGPT of your own life.

You just have to will yourself to use it. After 19 years of performing the unlock-phone/open-app/search routine, you’ll need some time to acclimate.

The other thing people will need to overcome is their distrust after fifteen years of Siri failing to reliably live up to Apple’s marketing claims. Perhaps other people’s experiences with Siri have been better than mine, or they have been more patient than I am, but my biggest hurdle has been in remembering that Siri can actually do things now. And it is really capable software now.

My one main complaint with this new version is that it seems to be slower for a handful of local tasks that ought to be near-immediate. When I ask it to pause some currently playing audio, it takes several seconds; I think that should be instant. If it was not so before this new version, I remember it being at least a little faster.
