Apple Releases iOS 6.1 Beta ⇥ 9to5mac.com
This helps mend my biggest complaint with iOS 6’s new Maps:
The biggest issue I’ve seen with the new Maps is search. Arbitrary location searches from Maps are startlingly inaccurate. A search for “market” will choose a place in Canmore, Alberta—around a hundred kilometres away—as its best guess. Kensington Wine Market, just down the street, is displayed as a pin, but is not the first choice.
This same line of logic goes for cafés, too, for example: searching for “coffee” in iOS 6 will return places that have “coffee” in their name. In 6.1, this is improved to be more contextually aware. A search for “coffee” now shows all cafés nearby. My biggest gripe appears to have been fixed, for the most part.
