Today’s inauguration ceremonies in the United States were notable for many reasons: Vice President Kamala Harris has ascended to the highest office, so far, for a (non-white) woman in the U.S.; it was backdropped by evidence of a yearlong pandemic; it marked the return of full sentences and oratory skill above that of a startled goose.

But, aside from the procedural events, it is hard to think of a higher point than Amanda Gorman’s reading of her poem “The Hill We Climb”. A little less than six minutes of entirely captivating verse.
